2022 Fall Campfire
Date: Friday, August 19 through Sunday, August 21, 2022.
Location: Camp Harvest is located at 6829 East 72nd Street, Newaygo, MI 49337 and their phone number is 1-231-652-5281 or 1-847-398-7005. You can get a look at Camp Harvest by going to their website at harvestrollingmeadows.org. See the interactive map below for directions to Camp Harvest.
Check in Time: 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm Friday. There is no Friday evening meal but snacks are served later in the evening after the Welcome program. No fishing in the pond is permitted on Friday! (We want the fish cooperative for the training sessions on Saturday. You will have plenty of open fishing time on Sunday morning.)
Check out Time: The campfire will conclude at 3:00 PM on Sunday.
What to Bring: At least one child. (If you need a child to sponsor, or have a child in need of a sponsor, contact John Wernet by phone at 1-906-440-0340 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..)
Also bring sleeping bag (or sheets and blankets), pillow, soap, towels, rain gear (just in case), a sweater or jacket for cool evenings and, to protect your child while he or she is fishing, both a hat and sunglasses (or other protective eyewear). We have 42 TFO Bug Launcher Fly rods, fully rigged, for campers use. If you have a 7 to 8 1/2 foot fly rod and reel for a 6 weight line (or thereabouts), please bring it just in case.
Suggested gift for the Saturday night Campfire is that all sponsors bring one dozen flies that they have tied or purchased to give to their camper(s.)
We also need items for the Saturday night kids' raffle. This raffle is a real high point for many of the kids. Please bring an item to donate. It need not be fancy or expensive. We welcome any new or used fly-fishing or fly tying items, a few flies (we will put them in fly boxes), or any fishing related items that may appeal to the kids. We also are in need of feathers for the kid’s open fly tying table. Please check your supplies to see if there is something you can donate.
What NOT to Bring: Absolutely NO ALCOHOL – it is prohibited at the camp. Smoking is permitted only in the parking lot at Camp Harvest. The Camp will charge us $5 for every cigarette butt they find! Don’t let your child bring electronic games to camp, as they are a distraction. If your child needs to bring a cell phone we require that it be turned off during all instructional and evening activities.
Special Reminder: Sponsors of Level 6 campers who plan to participate in this year's Fishing with the Masters program are reminded that, in order to participate, the kids need to demonstrate basic skills in knots, fly tying, casting, etiquette, and safety. (A review of basics just before camp never hurts!)
